Fanmi Lavalas

Fanmi Lavalas (Creole for "Lavalas Family") is a Haitian political party founded in 1996 by former president Jean-Bertrand Aristide following a split from the Organisation du Peuple en Lutte (OPL). The party has historically drawn strong support from Haiti's urban poor and rural communities.
History
The party emerged from the broader Lavalas movement, which swept Aristide to the presidency in 1990 and again in 2000. Fanmi Lavalas has participated in multiple electoral cycles and remains one of the most recognizable political brands in Haiti.
